Increasing Laptop Battery Performance
Batteries won’t last forever. They will wear out over time. But properly caring for your laptop battery can keep it healthy until you are ready for an upgrade. Older batteries used to need to be fully charged and discharged every once in a while to keep them from developing a “memory”. That is no longer the case with today’s newer batteries, but there are still a few things that you can do to increase the longevity of your battery’s overall life.
If you are running the laptop on AC power and think that it will be that way for more than a few days, charge it to 80% or more and remove the battery.
Later, if you need the battery, plug it back in. If it’s been a few months since you last used the battery, check the charge and recharge it, if necessary, before using it again.
(Although I have seen it done, it is not recommended to remove or insert a laptop battery while the laptop is running. It’s recommended to shut it down first.)
Keep your battery cool. If you need to, get a cooling pad for your laptop or shut down your laptop for a while to let your battery cool down. Heat will degrade your battery very quickly.
